Encore Creativity for Older Adults, the largest and fastest growing choral program for adults over age 55, is looking for a qualified choral conductor to conduct a chorale in the Baltimore MD area starting in September 2014. This is one of 13 Encore Chorales in the Baltimore-Washington area. The chorale rehearses once a week, during the day, for 1.5 hours and the conductor is paid a flat rate for each rehearsal. The Fall season is 15 weeks of rehearsal followed by concert performances with other area Encore Chorales. The second session - Winter/Spring - begins in mid-January and continues into May, with Spring concerts at the conclusion of 15 weeks.
Qualifications for the conductor are:
Bachelors degree in music with focus on vocal performance or conducting and 5+ years experience conducting community choir, church choir, high school or college choir OR Masters degree in choral conducting and at least 3 years conducting experience.
Piano skills - to conduct from the piano during rehearsals
Understanding of vocal technique and ability to explain it
Enjoy working with older adults – experience with this age group preferred
Patience and personality
Sense of humor
This is an excellent opportunity for a retired high school or community chorus conductor who would like to take on a part-time position, or an active conductor who has evening choral conducting duties and would like to add a daytime chorale to their schedule. There is the potential for additional conducting responsibilities as Encore continues to grow.
