UrbanArias is always interested in discovering new talent.
UrbanArias announces Open Call auditions on Thursday June 12, 2014 from 4 – 10 p.m. at Artisphere, which is located at 1101 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22209.
We are looking for excellent singing actors for upcoming productions, and are particularly interested in acquainting ourselves with more DC-area talent.
SINGERS OF COLOR ARE ESPECIALLY ENCOURAGED TO AUDITION!
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Please present a list of three opera arias (no art songs), at least one of which must be in English. One (but only one) musical theater piece is welcome in lieu of an aria as part of your three selections. A pianist will be provided. After your sung audition, you will be grouped in threes based on time slots to do a quick spoken improv game.
WHAT YOU’RE AUDITIONING FOR: Upcoming mainstage productions at Artisphere, and mini-opera/improv shows at IOTA Club and Cafe, Atlas, Strathmore and other venues; the latter involve improvisation, which is why we ask for it. If you’re not an experienced improv-er, don’t worry about it: just have fun. We do plenty of things that don’t involve improv, and we understand that great actors are not always great improv-ers. We’re not uptight, and you shouldn’t be either.
TO BOOK A TIME SLOT: Email Robert Wood at rwood@urbanarias.org. Include your headshot and resume, a sound or video clip, your three audition selections, and your availability on June 12. You will be notified if you are granted an audition. IMPORTANT: Walk-ins will not be accepted. If you have not booked an audition time in advance through Robert Wood, you will not be heard.
LOCATION: Artisphere is located at 1101 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington’s Rosslyn neighborhood. It is a block from the Rosslyn Metro. There is parking at 1101 Wilson Blvd., which is free after 5 p.m.
FEE: There is a $15 fee to audition, which must be presented upon arrival. Cash and checks are accepted.
