Unexpected Stage Company (Silver Spring, MD) - Seeking submissions for 2014 season


Unexpected Stage is currently accepting non-Equity actor submissions for our 2014 season. Please email a picture and resume to Christopher Goodrich, chris@unexpectedstage.org. Essentially Unexpected:
Each year Unexpected Stage holds a Spring event that seeks to expand the definition of theater.For the past 2 years, we have held our very successful Monologue Fest. This year, 2014, we will produce a Night of Improvisation in which audiences will vote for their favorite improvisers. We are looking for 15 actors to compete in our Night of Improv, where the audience will decide the winners. Night of Improv will take place in May 2014. May 3rd at the Randolph Road Theater.

Character Breakdown, Especially Unexpected
We are looking for 15 actors who can perform improvisation in a competitive setting. We will conduct 3 rehearsals to teach all competitors the games we will use the night of. Competitors/groups standings are based on audience voting.

Dani Girl
In this witty and touching contemporary musical, by the award-winning team of Michael Kooman and Christopher Dimond, a precocious 9 year old is hospitalized when her leukemia comes out of remittance. With a morbid imagination, she attempts to find an answer to the bewildering question, “Why is Cancer?” Dani, her imaginary friend Raph, and a fellow cancer patient Marty discover the secrets to life as well as death in this touching, witty new musical. Directed by Christopher Goodrich. Dani Girl will begin rehearsals in mid-June, Rehearsals begin Mid June, Performances July 17th-August 10th at The Randolph Road Theater. All positions in Dani Girl are paid.

Seeking:
Dani (9 years old; to be played by an adult actor): Lively but morbid. Extremely imaginative. Precocious. Stricken with Leukemia. Music is in the mezzo-soprano range.
Raph (ageless): Dani’s imaginary friend and guardian angel. Sarcastic but caring. Playful on cue. Appears as many other characters. Tenor/Baritone.
Marty (10 years old; to be played by an adult actor): odd and intelligent, bordering on dorky. Obsessed with Movies. Tenor/Baritone.
Mother (30′s-40′s): Dani’s mother. Stern. Hard. Does what she believes is right to save her daughter and makes no apologies for it. Turns to religion for comfort. Music is in the mezzo-soprano range.

Danny Boy
In this NYC Fringe Audience Favorite Award-winning comedy, Danny is a typical, career-oriented New Yorker except for the fact that he is a little person. Playwright Marc Goldsmith takes us inside the vantage point of someone quite small who must navigate through romance, a career, his family and friends, all while confronting his own insecurities about measuring up. Directed by Christopher Goodrich. Danny Boy will begin rehearsals in September, and run October 16 to October 27 at Randolph Road Theater. All positions in Danny Boy are paid.

Seeking:
Danny: (late 20s-30s) A little person who must confront his identity, insecurity, family and friends. Extremely put together and successful as compared with his friends.
Gabe: (late 20s – 30s) Unemployed and living with his parents. A well meaning man-child, and lifelong friend to Danny. Charming and sweet, but needs a kick in the pants.
Dori: (late 20s-30s) One of Danny’s best friends. Smart and sophisticated. The object of Danny’s true affections.
Allison: A girl from the office who Danny is interested in. Interesting, daring and wild.
Sheila (50s to 60s): Danny’s Mom. Extremely caring and overbearing. Has denied that Danny is a little person in order to give him a “normal” life.
Trent: A young, hip, good looking New Yorker who is interested in Allison. A bit insecure; asks Danny for advice about women, specifically Allison.
