The City of Gaithersburg and the Kentlands Community Foundation present the annual Young Artist Award, a juried competition culminating in a concert for the top prize winners. The goal of the Young Artist Award is to provide musicians ages 12-18 with an enriching artistic experience and encourage them in their love of music.

Open to vocal and instrumental (woodwind, brass, string, piano) soloists between the ages of 12 – 18 years. Applicants must be at least 12 years old but no more than 18 years old by December 31, 2016.
Participants may apply as vocal soloist, wind soloist, brass soloist, string soloist or piano soloist. Performers must provide their own piano accompanists, but may play pieces that do not require accompaniment.
Previous First Place winners may not apply in the category in which they won.
Participants will perform before a live jury in a closed audition on Saturday, February 4, 2017.
First, second, third and honorable mention prizes may be awarded in each category (Vocal, Wind, Brass, String, and Piano).
All participants will receive written feedback from the jurors. Written feedback will be mailed to participants within ten business days.
Winners will be notified by phone within one day of the competition and a letter will be sent within ten business days.
Top prize winners will be presented in the Young Artist Award Concert on Friday, March 31, 2017. Participants MUST be available.
Participants must bring four (4) copies of their audition repertoire to the competition. Put first and last names in top right corner of all pages. Copies will not be returned (failure to bring copies will result in lowering of the competition score).

Applications are due by December 15, 2016. Please note that there are a limited number of audition spots in each category (vocal, piano, string, woodwind, brass). They will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Register early.
