Auditions for: Much Ado About Nothing-Thursday November 1, 7:30- 9 pm Saturday November 3 11- 2


The Castaways Repertory Theatre announces auditions for:
Much Ado About Nothing
by William Shakespeare

Directed by Hannah Butler

Auditions:

Thursday November 1, 7:30- 9 pm

Saturday November 3 11- 2 pm

Saturday auditionees will be told after auditions, if they are needed back at 3:00 pm.

Callbacks: Sat November 3, 2018, 3-5 pm.

Cold readings from script. Please take time to read up about the play, so you will understand the characters and their stories.

Dress for movement because everyone will be up onstage reading for parts

Possible singing or dancing.

Special talents are not a requirement, but are definitely a bonus! Juggling, sword play, fighting etc.



Performances:

Evenings-January 18, 19, 25, 26, February 1, 2, 2019 at 8:00 pm.

Matinees-January 20, 26, February 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm.



Ages- High School and older

Character Breakdown (All ethnicities will be considered for each role)

Leonato male | 40-70 Hero’s father, Beatrice’s uncle, the revered governor of Messina, and a loving, single parent.

Antonio male | 40-70 Leonato’s brother and Beatrice’s father. He is fiercely loyal, clever, wickedly humorous, and an acting priest who leads the wedding ceremony and helps make peace when things go awry.

Beatrice female | 25-40 the niece of Leonato and cousin of Hero. A witty, free-thinking woman with a sharp tongue which she uses to mock Benedick.

Don Pedro male | 25-50 a prince and longtime friend of Leonato, he wears his position well and is an intelligent, fun-loving and faithful friend.

Benedick male | 25-40 Don Pedro’s loyal soldier and a fervent believer in bachelorhood who is constantly at odds with Beatrice.

Claudio male | 15-25 a young soldier under the wing of Benedick, very in-tune with his emotions and head-over-heels in love with Hero.

Don John male or female | 20-40 Don Pedro’s illegitimate sibling, a bitter, melancholy, and destructive person who takes humorous delight in causing mischief.

Hero female | 15-25 Leonato’s daughter and Beatrice’s cousin, a soft-spoken, gentle and humorous young woman.

Dogberry male or female | 30-70 the Constable of Messina who thinks he/she is far brighter and smarter than others do, and constantly butchers logic and the English language in the diligent pursuit of justice.

Verges male or female | 30-70 Dogberry’s deputy policeman. If there are brains in this outfit, Verges is the more likely of the two to locate them.

Margaret-female | 15-30 loyal attendant to Hero, she is fun-loving with a bawdy sense of humor.

Ursula female | 30-70 a fun-loving gentlewoman in Hero’s household.

Borachio male | 20-40 one of Don John’s followers and a companion of Margaret, a drunkard who can be bribed to do just about anything.

Conrade male or female | 20-40 another of Don John’s lackeys who loves to get involved in mischief.

Balthasar / Sexton male or female | 25-60 the Sexton of the town who also delights others with music. Must be able to carry a tune. Playing a stringed instrument (such as a guitar, ukulele, etc.) would be beneficial but is not required.

Seacole male or female | 15-70 one of the “eyes and ears” of our story. Seacole (with Oatcake) drops us into the action with a lengthy bit of Prologuing, and also serves proudly as Watchman, Messenger, Servant, and any other roles that might be needed.

Capital Beltway I-495 to Springfield VA exit South on I-95(Richmond) to Dale City/Rippon Landing exit 156, left lane toward Rippon Landing to US Route 1/Rest Area

Exit to the right sharply just after driving under the overpass (do not proceed straight to the Rest Area)

After exiting you will merge onto Dale Blvd (Rte. 784 East)- you must merge left or you will be forced to take a right at the end of the lane.

Turn Right onto US Route 1 South (second light after exiting from 95 and merging onto Dale Blvd)

Turn Right at second light from Route 1 onto Cardinal Drive

Turn Left at the first light onto Donald Curtis Drive (sign overhead says Gov't Center), Ferlazzo Building is on the right.

From the South (Fredericksburg, Virginia)

North on I-95 to exit 156 toward State Route 784 East, toward Rippon Landing and US Route 1

After exiting you will merge onto Dale Blvd (Rt 784 East).

Turn Right onto US Route 1 South/Jefferson Davis Hwy (second light after exiting from 95 and the merge onto Dale Blvd)

Turn Right at second light from Route 1 onto Cardinal Drive

Turn Left at the first light onto Donald Curtis Drive (sign overhead says Gov’t Center), Ferlazzo Building is on the right.
