WNO Career Development Programs for High School Students--Applications Open

The Kennedy Center Education Division and the Washington National Opera are pleased to announce that applications are now open for our two career development programs for high school students, the WNO Opera Institute at American University and WNO Young Associates. WNO Opera Institute at American University

June 25-July 14, 2018

For high school singers ages 15-18

This inspiring three-week summer intensive brings passionate young musicians together in the nation's capital to experience opera in a professional and nurturing environment that only a world-class opera company can provide. Aspiring classical singers thrive from the Institute’s rigorous and responsive curriculum, which prepares students for college performance programs and beyond.

WNO Young Associates

February 2018

For high school students interested in exploring opera and related fields

WNO Young Associates get an up close and personal look at how a world class opera company puts together a professional production by observing the WNO throughout several stages of the rehearsal process. In addition, students will have exclusive discussions with artists and WNO staff and private tours of the WNO Costume Studio and the backstage of the Kennedy Center Opera House. The 2017-2018 program will center around WNO's production of Verdi's Don Carlo.

No auditions required; application includes brief essay questions and teacher recommendations

Open to students in the greater Washington, DC area interested in any aspect of opera
