Synopsis
Ethan, a junior attorney, calls out "sick" in order to propose to his girlfriend at a romantic lakeside resort. Unfortunately his boss, Rosenburg, is meeting his mistress, the judge, at the same B&B. Meanwhile, Rosenburg's wife has enlisted her college-bound niece to spy on his extramarital activities. Compromising situations, mistaken identities, and a hotel employee who can't get anyone's room number right lead to mayhem and hilarity of operatic proportions. This piece is entirely sung-through, with no spoken dialogue.
Roles
All roles are unpaid and open except where noted below.

Ethan Rosenblum, Bass-Baritone, 30s (G#2-F4): A junior attorney at Rosenberg and Associates. Earnest and overworked. He is taking Emma away in order to surprise her with a proposal. This role has been cast.
Emma Chapman, Soprano, 20-30s, (E4-B5): Ethan’s girlfriend. Idealistic and kind, but frustrated by Ethan’s lack of work-life balance. Excited to be getting away and spending some time together.
George Rosenburg, Baritone, 50-60s (B2-G4): Partner at Rosenburg and Associates. Driving his niece, Roxanne, back to college, and using it as an excuse to meet up with his mistress, Virginia, who is the judge presiding over his current case.
Roxanne Rosenburg, Soprano, late teens (D4-C#6), must have excellent diction above the staff): Rosenburg’s niece, on her way back to college. Sarcastic, bored, and always on her phone. Her aunt, Sandra Rosenburg, has asked her to spy on Mr. Rosenburg and collect evidence of his infidelity, which will help her in divorce court.
Mrs. S., Mezzo-Soprano, 40- 60s (D4-G5): Runs the B&B almost single-handedly. She wants to impress Rosenburg and also finds him attractive.
Matt, High Baritone/Tenor, late teens (D3-G#4): Works at the B&B. Affable but oblivious. Always on his phone instead of paying attention.
Virginia, Soprano, 40-60s (D4-C6): Judge presiding over Rosenburg’s current case. Also his mistress. Powerful, attractive, and used to being the smartest person in the room.
Sandra Rosenburg, Soprano, 50-60s (F#4-B5), must have excellent diction above the staff): Rosenburg’s wife. She has initiated divorce proceedings, but needs proof of infidelity to get a more favorable settlement, and has bribed her niece, Roxanne, to spy on Rosenburg and gather evidence. Intelligent and ruthless.
Tech 1 and Tech 2, Middle Voices: These singers play the GPS voices, as well as ring-tones, fire alarms, and incoming text messages from characters who don’t appear in the opera.

To sign up for an audition, please visit the VLOC Audition Page.

Current & Former VLOC members: Please note that due to an overwhelming interest in performing in our shows in recent seasons, and limited space on the F. Scott Fitzgerald stage for cast members, ALL those interested in performing (including chorus) MUST audition.

How VLOC auditions typically work for fully-staged productions:

Performers of all ages (elementary school through retirement) are encouraged to audition. Children and teens are especially welcome. We love to teach people who are new to operetta!
All roles are open and unpaid.
You will be asked to prepare one verse of a song in English. Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. Please do not audition a cappella.
Wear clothes/shoes you can move in.
Short, cold readings will be provided at auditions.
You will also be asked to provide ALL of your scheduling conflicts for the rehearsal period.
VLOC rehearses a few evenings a week 7:30-10pm, in addition to weekends. Rehearsal calls are dependent upon the directors' and cast's availability.
If cast, you will be required to pay annual membership dues ($25 for ages 18+, $15 for 17 and under).
