MARTHA MARCKS MACK ANNUAL AWARD for GRADUATE STUDENTS PURSUING A DOCTORAL DEGREE IN VOCAL PERFORMANCE

Annual Award--$5,000

Requirements for Award Audition:
Five audition selections must include the following categories and languages, making sure the opera and oratorio selections are not using the same language. Although one language will be used twice, the five selections performed must include Italian, German, French, and English.

1. One operatic aria and recitative: Italian, French or German, sung in the vernacular language.
2. One oratorio aria and recitative: English or German, sung in the vernacular language.
3. Two arts songs; one German, one French or one Italian, sung in the vernacular language.
4. An American art song by an American composer, sung in English.

Four Copies of a DVD of Repertory Categories and Languages listed above must be submitted to the award chairman and postmarked by March 15.
Award Applicants will be notified of results by May 15.
Three Required Letters of Recommendation must be sent to the Award Chairman and postmarked no later than March 15.

1. Current voice professor (include professor's contact information and dates of study with that professor_.
2. Director of the School of Music where candidate is currently enrolled.
3. Head of the Vocal Department where candidate is currently enrolled.
To further validate a candidate's worthiness and qualifications, additional letters may be submitted by
other voice teachers and/or conductors under whom the candidate has sung.

Additional Requirements--
Items submitted with DVD must be postmarked by March 15
1. Candidate must show written proof of having been admitted to the vocal performance doctoral program
of his/her chosen school, which school must also be accredited by the National Association of Schools of
Music (NASM).
2. An official transcript of candidate's grades (undergraduate and graduate) must be submitted to the
award chairman.
3. Candidate must submit a 150 word narrative describing his/her professional aspirations.
4. Candidate must show proof of membership in the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC).
5. Candidate must be a native born or naturalized U.S. citizen.

A candidate may not receive this award more than one time. In order to comply with the IRS
requirements, the winner of the award will be required to supply his/her social security number to the
NFMC Treasurer.
