Ash Lawn Opera--Young Artist Pianist Application Instructions

Ash Lawn Opera is currently accepting audition materials for a Young Artist Pianist, who will have the opportunity to work closely with the coaches, conductors, and singers of the 2016 summer season. See below for responsibilties, qualifications, and audition requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Young Artist Pianist will play for staging rehearsals of both Così fan tutte and South Pacific, cue surtitles for Così, coach Apprentice Singers, and play for outreach events as assigned. This position is overseen and mentored by the Principal Coach.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should be pursuing or have completed a graduate degree in Collaborative Piano, and/or have participated in other Young Artist Programs.

COMPENSATION

The Young Artist Pianist will receive a stipend of $2,250, plus host housing (private room/bathroom in a donor's home). Transportation to, from, and within Charlottesville is the responsibility of the artist.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

No live auditions will be held; all decisions are based on the submitted materials.

To audition to be the Young Artist Pianist, please send the following materials by Dec. 14, 2015:

- Two recordings:

- Playing an opera excerpt with singers
- Playing an opera excerpt while you "sing" entrances as you would in a rehearsal (quality of voice irrelevant)
- Optional third excerpt of solo piano music

- A letter of recommendation from a conductor, singer, or stage director with whom you have worked

- Resume

Recordings may be submitted as CDs, DVDs, mp3s, YouTube links, or links to audio files via SoundCloud or other file sharing websites.
