DESIREE ARMFELDT, female, 40s. Glamorous actress; seductive and fascinating, with a star presence and a mischievous wit. Her good humor and ribald spirit usually conceal the vulnerable romantic yearning still present underneath—but not always. Mezzo; sings “Send in the Clowns.”

FREDRIKA ARMFELDT, female, 18 plus to play mid teens. A very poised young girl. Petite, inquisitive and perceptive. Light, clear singing voice. Ability to play piano a plus.

ANNE EGERMAN, female, early 20s. A porcelain-doll beauty, pampered and exquisite, naïve and frivolous but good-hearted. Legit light soprano with pure top notes.

HENRIK EGERMAN, male, 20s. A seminary student, boyish but overly serious. His righteous religious morality is in conflict with his repressed sexual desires. Light lyric tenor. (Ability to play the cello would be a plus.)

COUNT CARL-MAGNUS MALCOLM, male, 30s-40s. A dragoon and an aristocrat; pompous and bellicose, but dashing and debonair. Legit high baritone.

COUNTESS CHARLOTTE MALCOLM, female, 20s-40s. Beautiful and elegant; hopelessly in love with her womanizing husband, she has a biting and self-lacerating wit. Mezzo.

PETRA, female, 20s. A chambermaid, playful and earthy; lusty and adventuresome, but practical. Powerful belt-mix.

FRID, male, 20s-30s. A butler. Suavely professional at work; lusty and free-spirited in love. Non-singing role.

MR. LINDQUIST, male, 20s-40s, one of the Quintet. Sophisticated and witty. Waltzes and moves well. Legit bass-baritone.
