Audition Details:
Fairfax Choral Society West Campus Treble I (ages 9-13) seeks Musicianship Instructor. Position reports to the Director of Youth Education.
General Description:
Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Education, musicianship teachers use FCS provided curriculum in the education of their students as part of the Youth Chorus Musicianship programming.
The Treble I Musicianship Class works with students to continue to develop music literacy skills. Using primarily the Kodály philosophy and FCS curriculum (provided), the teacher builds vocal development through solfège, handsigns, rhythm syllables, singing games, play parties, and other instructional techniques. A demonstration of skills and final skills check for every child will be held annually.
Specific Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
1. Teach musicianship class once weekly for forty-five minutes (Treble I), using curriculum as provided by FCS that creates a comprehensive music education for students.
2. Be in communication with Director of Youth Education and other musicianship teachers to ensure the best education for students.
3. Be in regular communication with parents regarding student progress.
4. Prepare students for annual demonstration of skills and final skills checks.
5. Provide parents with resources for assisting with child's education and continued learning.
Qualifications:
Strong commitment to training young children to sing and develop a love of music
Demonstrated ability to teach music kinesthetically
Must possess (or in the process of acquiring) one level of Kodály training or equivalent
Hours:
Tuesday's in Herndon, 6:30-7:15 p.m.
Salary:
$1,100 plus substitute or continuing education stipend
