Washington Sängerbund - Washington, DC

Role Type: Choral Conductor

Compensation: Paid

Audition Details:
The Washington Sängerbund is searching for a choral conductor beginning in late April/early May 2013. Founded in 1851, the chorus has a long history of performing German repertoire in our Nation's Capital. Rehearsals are weekly on Monday from 7 to 9pm in the Concord Club Rooms at 2434 Wisconsin Ave, NW (above Old Europe restaurant); no rehearsals during the summer months June to late August. An upright piano and Roland electric piano are available for rehearsals.

The annual schedule includes three regular performances: a spring concert in April, a fall concert in November, and a traditional German Christmas concert at the United Church - Vereinigte Kirche in Georgetown at 20th and G St., NW. The chorus occasionally hires soloists and instrumentalists for performances. Other smaller choral presentations during the year as events occur.

We are looking for an energetic conductor to lead our mixed chorus of 40 dedicated singers. It is the Washington Sängerbund's mission to preserve German song and the German language, and to cultivate the study of music and instruct the members in choral singing and the theoretical knowledge of music.

Knowledge of German language is helpful but not required.
