AUDITIONS: BIG RIVER--Greenbelt MD


The Greenbelt Arts Center will be holding open auditions for all roles in BIG RIVER on Jan. 22 and 23 at 7:30. The show opens on April 12 and runs through May 5. Please be prepared to sing something from the show or something of a similar genre. Dress in comfortable clothing ready to sweat and have fun. The Choreographer will be incorporating several steps/themes that will be recurring throughout the production that mostly everyone will need to know. CHARACTERS: 8 Men, 4 Women, 8-15 Ensemble

Jim Bradley male 25 – 45 baritone lead - Runaway slave who joins Huck in his flight down the river.
Huckleberry Finn male 16 – 25 high baritone lead -Young, adventurous and a little bit naïve, Huck is the narrator of the story and the voice of Mark Twain.
King male 35 – 55 baritone supporting - Older of two con men who claims to be the disappeared heir to the French throne and takes control of Huck and Jim’s raft. An old vaudeville type who is larger than life.
Duke male 35 – 55 tenor supporting - Younger of two con men who claims to be the Duke of Bridgewater and takes control of Huck and Jim’s raft. An old vaudeville type who is larger than life.
Pap Finn male 38 – 50 baritone supporting - Huck’s drunk, abusive father who tries to steal his son’s reward money.
Tom Sawyer male 16 – 25 tenor supporting - Huck’s best friend who enjoys schemes and extravagant stories.
Young Fool male 16 – 25 tenor featured - Friendly person who inadvertently mistakes the King, the Duke and Huck as someone
else.
Alice female 30 – 60 soprano featured - The Wilkes slave.
Alice’s daughter female 15 – 30 soprano/alto (low G to high C ) featured - The daughter of Alice, the Wilkes slave.
Mary Jane Wilkes female 16 – 25 mezzo supporting - Peter Wilkes’ beautiful daughter who is tricked by the Duke and the King. Love interest to Huck.
Judge Thatcher male 45 – 75 baritone featured - Kindly town judge who watches over Huck and his reward money.
Widow Douglas female 50 – 70 soprano/alto (moderate range) featured - Town widow who takes care of Huck and tries to civilize him through religion and kindness.
Miss Watson female 40 – 60 soprano/alto (moderate range) featured - Widow Douglas’ sister, who also tried to civilize Huck through religion and manners.
8-15 Ensemble Roles, Non-featured– Any age, female, male, teens to play townspeople, hired hands, slaves, Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer’s “band of robbers”,mourners, movers, tarts, etc.

MUSIC: Be prepared to sing something from the show or in a similar genre.

CHOREOGRAPHY: Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes to learn some simple
movement from the show.
