The Winston Scholarship in Classical Voice

The Winston Scholarship in Classical Voice is available each year to artists between the ages* of 16 through 22. In honor of Shirley Rabb Winston, the scholarship seeks applicants who demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success.

The competition is held at two levels:

First, local chapters, including the Washington, D.C. chapter, hold competitions. The NSAL D.C. chapter hosts a competition for young artists from Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. At stake is $1,500 in awards for two vocalists.

Next is NSAL’s national competition, where local chapters may send as many as two contestants to compete against their counterparts from the 17 NSAL chapters across the country. A total of $10,000 in scholarships for private study, special training, or personal advancement is awarded to winner. The maximum amount awarded is $5,000.
