Side Show Plot

Based on the true story of Siamese twins Violet and Daisy Hilton, who became stars during the Depression, SIDE SHOW is a moving portrait of two women joined at the hip, whose extraordinary bond brings them fame but denies them love. The show follows the twins' progression from England to America, around the vaudeville circuit, and to Hollywood on the eve of their appearance in the 1932 movie FREAKS. With musical styles ranging from the vaudevillian "Are You Ready" to the sweepingly emotional "Who Will Love Me as I Am," this gorgeous musical from the composer of DREAMGIRLS will touch your heart and tickle your funny bone.

Character Breakdown

VIOLET HILTON: Female. (Mezzo/Soprano with belt; big range). The shy and more composed of the twins, her dream is to marry and raise a family at home. She falls in love with Buddy.

DAISY HILTON: Female. (Alto/Mezzo with belt; big range). The dominant and more outspoken of the twins, her dream is to become a famous performer/celebrity. She falls in love with Terry but is more concerned with her career than with marriage.

* NOTE: Since the Hilton sisters were conjoined twins attached at the lower spine/hip, actors interested in these roles MUST be comfortable acting, moving, and dancing in tandem with another, and may be paired at the audition or callback with other candidates for scenes and dances. Theatrical convention will be what makes these two sisters identical; the most important factors are acting, range, ability, and compatibility.
