Brigadoon Auditions at Rockville Musical Theatre

Auditions are open call and you will be seen in the order in which you arrive.

Auditioners will be asked to list previous performance experience (you may attach a resume), take a photograph, and to list all conflicts throughout the rehearsal process and performances (August through November).

Please prepare at least 32 measures of a song in the style of the show. Singing from the show is not encouraged. Please bring your own sheet music. An audition pianist will be provided.

All auditioners will be required to learn a short dance combination. No experience is necessary. Dancing in flip-flops, sandals, socks, or bare feet will not be permitted. Dance shoes or tennis shoes are recommended,

All roles are open and unpaid. Casting: Males and females age 13 and up; children age 7-12 will be considered if parent/guardian is also auditioning and is in the cast or works backstage as part of the running crew.


BRIGADOON CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Fiona MacLaren - Female lead - Graceful and altogether lovely. She is bright, has a gentle sense of humor and is completely frank to the point of being often quite disarming.
Age Range: 20s through 30s.
Vocal range: Soprano, B below Middle C to A.


Tommy Albright - Male lead - This character must show his questioning and discomfort with his 1947 surroundings and engagement, and his total attraction to, and belief, in Fiona and the miracle of Brigadoon.
Age Range: 30's
Vocal range: Baritone, B-flat below Middle C to F#.


Charlie Dalrymple - Supporting lead - He is betrothed to Jean.
Age Range: 20s through 30s.
Vocal range: Tenor, D below Middle C to G.


Jean MacLaren - Female lead dancer- Attractive, shy and diffident. She is betrothed to Charlie Dalrymple. Must be able to emote true feeling through her dance.
Age Range: 20s
Vocal range: any.


Meg Brockie - Strong comic supporting role for fun-loving woman. Eager to find love and enticing to Jeff.
Age Range: 20s through 30s.
Vocal range: Strong alto, G below Middle C to F.


Jeff Douglas - Supporting role for comic actor. Jeff is skeptical of the world. Loves his drink and his women, and can’t understand Tommy’s feelings that it all should matter.
Age Range: 30s.
Vocal range: any.


Harry Beaton - Male dance lead-Archie’s son. Harry is deeply in love with Jean and learning. Living in Brigadoon he knows he will never be able to have either. This terrible despondency leads to the tragedy of the show.
Age Range: 20s through 30s.
Vocal range: any.


Andrew MacLaren - Supporting role - Father of Fiona & Jean. He is a bit pompous and has a loud and gruff voice.
Age Range: 50s
Vocal range: any.


Archie Beaton - Supporting role - A kind-looking Scot and Harry’s father. Sells wool, plaids, etc.
Age Range: 50s
Vocal range: any.


Mr. Lundie -Very important supporting role - A quaint Scottish school master, Mr. Lundie is the keeper of “The Miracle” and heart and soul of Brigadoon.
Age Range: 50s+
Vocal range: any.


Maggie Anderson - Supporting dance lead- Her love for Harry and her disappointment in it not being returned must be palpable. Dances the very important funeral dance.
Age Range: 20s through 30s
Vocal range: any.


Angus MacGuffie - Supporting role - Sells eggs, milk and cream in MacConnachy Square with Meg.
Age Range: 30s+.
Vocal range: Baritone, E-flat below Middle C to E-flat above Middle C.


Stuart Dalrymple - Supporting role. Charlie’s father. Sells woolen clothes in MacConnachy Square.
Age Range: 40s-50s
Vocal range: Tenor, D below Middle C to G.


Sandy Dean, 30s+. Supporting role. Sells candy in MacConnachy Square.
Age Range: 30s+.
Vocal range: Bass, Bass cleft C to D above Middle C.


MacGregor - Supporting role - Sells salted meat in MacConnachy Square.
Age Range: 30s+.
Vocal range: Baritone, E-flat below Middle C to E-flat above Middle C.


Frank: New York, a bartender. (Will be cast from Brigadoon chorus.)


Jane Ashton: New York, she is in her late twenties, chic, very attractive, though perhaps a little severe; engaged to Tommy. (Will be cast from Brigadoon chorus.)


Townsfolk of Brigadoon, ages 13 and up. Chorus should be able to sing and move well.


Dancers of Brigadoon. Need two males to perform the Sword Dance alongside Harry Beaton. Other dancers needed throughout.
