Wednesday, May 23 6-9pm
Please prepare 32 measures of a musical theatre piece that is similar in style to the music of It Shoulda Been You.
An accompanist will be available for the audition.
Music must be provided for the accompanist. A backing track may also be used.
There will be cold readings after the music portion of the audition.
There will not be a dance audition.
Please plan to stay for the entirety of the audition, if possible.

••• About the Show •••
“It Shoulda Been You” has all the elements of a classical musical theater comedy: A wedding, two families, mother/daughter issues, father/son issues, an ex-boyfriend, and even a fantastic wedding planner.
All of the things that you expect from a musical comedy but with a surprise twist that takes the traditional, turns it upside down, and creates a modern story.
At its heart, the show is about love, acceptance and, most of all, the importance of family.
••• Character Descriptions •••
Jenny Steinberg - Co-maid of honor and the bride's older sister. Jenny is accomplished, strong, and proud of who she is even if others, her mother in particular, don’t see who she truly is.
Gender: Female Age: Mid 20’s to Early 40’s Mezzo-soprano
Judy Steinberg - Mother of the bride. Judy is blunt, loud, and shoots from the hip.
She loves her children dearly, even when they don’t listen to her (which they always should).
Gender: Female Age: 50’s to 60’s - Alto
Marty Kaufman- The bride's ex-boyfriend who accidentally finds out about the wedding and rushes in uninvited and gets wrapped up in the chaos of the day.
Gender: Male Age: Mid 20’s to Early 40’s Tenor
Georgette Howard - Mother of the groom. Georgette is a society lady who dreads watching her boy leave her for another woman.
Gender: Female Age: 50’s to 60’s Alto/mezzo
George Howard - Father of the groom. George is concerned about his son’s future even if he can’t quite connect with him on any sort of emotional level.
Gender: Male Age: 50’s to 60’s Baritone
Rebecca Steinberg - The bride. Rebecca is high-strung and anxious about her special day. She has a difficult time coping as the day continues to provide unexpected challenges.
Gender: Female Age: Mid 20’s to Mid 30’s Soprano
Brian Howard - Brian is the groom and is hoping that the wedding will go off without a hitch. He keeps trying to impress Rebecca’s family while trying to deal with his difficult, emotionally-detached father.
Gender: Male Age: Mid 20’s to Mid 30’s Tenor with a few low notes
Murray Steinberg - Father of the bride. He is a kind man who loves his wife’s large personality and adores his daughters. Murray just wants everyone to have a great time.
Gender: - Male Age: 50’s to 60’s Bass/baritone
Annie Sheps - Annie is the co-maid of honor and the bride’s best friend. Her priority throughout the show is to just get Rebecca through her wedding day.
Gender: Female Age: Mid 20’s to Mid 30’s African-American
Mezzo-soprano
Greg Madison - Greg is the best man and the best friend of the groom. A fun and happy guy who just wants to have fun, but also begins feeling the strain of the wedding day.
Gender: Male Age: Mid 20’s to Mid 30’s Tenor
Albert - The wedding planner. Albert is a seasoned professional who has seen it all and, as a result, is prepared for everything that can go wrong and will go wrong.
Gender: Male Age: 30’s to mid-60’s Baritone (patter-style)
Mimsy/ Aunt Sheila - Mimsy is one of Albert’s assistants and is absolutely enjoying every bit of chaos that the wedding day brings. Aunt Sheila is the bride’s aunt and out to enjoy herself in every way possible on her niece’s big day.
Gender: Female Age: 30’s to mid-60’s Mezzo-soprano
Walt/Uncle Morty - Walt is one of Albert’s assistants and dreams of being a wedding planner, even though he’s a bit of a mess. Uncle Morty is another joyful member of the bride’s family. He doesn’t hear too well and sometimes has problems with his memory, resulting in considerable confusion for everyone around him.
