Ash Lawn Opera provides Young Artists with an enriching way to enhance their professional careers. The Young Artist pianist will have the opportunity to work closely with the 2017 summer music staff, including coaches and conductors, as well as to perform at outreach events and recitals.
Responsibilities:
Play for staging rehearsals of both productions
Cue surtitles for Rigoletto
Play for outreach events as assigned.
This position overseen and mentored by the head coach.
Qualifications:
In or completed Master's in Collaborative Piano and/or other Young Artist Programs.
Audition Repertoire:
Two recordings:
Playing an opera excerpt with singers
Playing an opera excerpt while you sing entrances, as you would in a rehearsal (quality of voice doesn't matter)
Optional third excerpt of solo piano music
Letter of recommendation from conductor, singer, or stage director with whom you have worked.
Compensation:
Young Artists receive a stipend of $1,950 for 6.5 weeks, plus host housing (private room/bath in a donor's home). Transportation to, from, and within Charlottesville is the responsibility of the artist.
