VIENNA CHORAL SOCIETY SEEKS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

ABOUT US
We are an SATB, inclusive, and accessible non-audition non-profit choir of approximately 70 singers from all walks of life and experiences, and varying skill levels.

We come together to create community-for singers and audience, alike-by offering an enriching, educational, high-quality choral experience. We are known for eclectic, unique theme-based programming that regularly includes community partnerships (with artists, educational and community-service organizations), and an emerging rotating smaller ensemble from the larger chorus. Every show tells a tightly woven story, and our audience-which draws from all over the greater DC-Metro region-has come to expect and appreciate our programmatic story-lines, interactive and atmospheric singing and our twist on tradition.

Our season runs from late August to early June. We perform four concerts per season. Upon invitation, we also perform at select community events through the year. We rehearse Tuesday evenings in Northern Virginia.

We seek an artistic director to:

Set an engaging artistic and programming vision.
Uphold a positive learning environment that integrates mastery of vocal technique. Show, don't just tell.
Work with an SATB choir of varying skill levels.
Lead with humor and flexibility - we enjoy the journey (rehearsals) as much as the destination (show night).

Requirements:

Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent. At least 3 years of previous conducting experience.
Experienced in leading a diverse SATB volunteer chorus with a wide range of voices and skill levels.
Singing ability to demonstrate expectations.
Basic piano keyboard skills. (Advanced skills are a preferred plus.)
Understanding, appreciation, and support for non-profit/arts management challenges, skills, and strategies, including the ability to work collaboratively with our volunteers to stay within budget, write effective grant applications, and manage a healthy, growing organization. We do a lot with a little.

Compensation:
This a part-time position, with an expected rehearsal, planning, and appearance commitment of approximately 150 hours per year. The salary is competitive. This is also an independent contractor position. Benefits and relocation allowance are not included.
