2016-2017 South Pacific Auditions for Chorus and Supporting Roles

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS & ONLINE ENTRY

Annapolis Opera invites you to apply to audition for Chorus, Children and supporting roles in Annapolis Opera’s fully staged production of South Pacific in the fall of 2016.

Performance dates: November 4 through November 6, 2016.
Applicants must commit to the following rehearsal schedule:

Chorus only: Weekends beginning October 8, 2016
All: Every weekend Oct. 15-Nov 6 some evenings October 17– 28; every evening Oct. 31-Nov. 4

Online applications will be accepted through May 1 (midnight, EDT), 2016.

SUPPORTING ROLES

CAPTAIN GEORGE BRACKETT, U.S.N.:
Male; 40-60; Military commander of the island; a pompous yet competent officer who hides a heart of gold; strong actor.

COMMANDER HARBISON, U.S.N.:
Male; 35-50; Officious Navy man; Brackett’s second-in-command and right hand man; strong actor;

LIAT:
Female; Tonkinese [Southeast Asian]; 18-25; heartbreakingly delicate, beautiful and the picture of purity; must move well; does not sing.

STEWPOT: [Also a Member of the Chorus]
Male; 18-35; a funny, shlubby character man with a strong tenor singing voice; one of the sailors and Luther Billis’ cohorts;

PROFESSOR: [Also a Member of the Chorus]
Male; 18-35; a funny character man of the studious type; strong singer; one of the Sailors and Luther Billis’ cohorts.

CHILDREN:
Ngana and Jerome, the illegitimate children of Emile de Becque. Ngana (female) and Jerome (male) characters need to appear to be between 7 and 11 years of age, with some singing and movement skills.
CHORUS

Female chorus of nurses [sopranos and altos]: ages 18-35

Male chorus of sailors [tenors and basses]: ages 18-35

*Bass with solid low F needed

APPLICATION/AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Complete online application form, which includes uploading the following:

Resume in document or PDF format only. Include performance experience, education, teachers, coaches, conductors, and honors.
Recent photograph or ‘headshot’ in JPG file format with 300 dpi resolution or better. Maximum size for each file is 3 MB. Please make sure that your last name is part of the photo and resume file name.
Chorus and children’s role applicants must identify two selections to perform from memory, not necessarily but preferably from South Pacific or another Rogers & Hammerstein work.

Audition appointments are limited and will be allocated based on the Annapolis Opera Artistic Director’s review of all applications. All applicants will be notified of their status and, if applicable, appointment time by May 6, 2016.

Applications are only considered when correctly completed. Within minutes of receiving your application, an email will be sent to the address you provided confirming the application was successfully received by the Annapolis Opera. THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEE OF AN AUDITION APPOINTMENT. If the confirmation email is not received, please notify Annapolis Opera immediately.

PROCEDURES

We want to make sure you are prepared, relaxed and comfortable for your audition. We prepared these procedures so you will know what we expect from you and what you should expect from us.

An accompanist will be provided by Annapolis Opera. Please bring music in the correct key. Pre-recorded accompaniment (tape, CD, etc.) is not permitted.
Singers are limited to 10 minutes for their audition performance.
Applicants for supporting roles will be asked to read a small section of dialogue provided at the audition.
On arrival at the audition location, an Annapolis Opera representative will help you check in and answer basic questions about how the audition will run. The representative will record your name and the time you arrived, and take an updated headshot or resume if you choose to provide one. Make sure to arrive early in order to give yourself time to check in.

You will receive an email confirmation of your successful completion of this application at the email address provided. Please note that all correspondence regarding your application and your status will be via the email address that you have provided.
