Audition Requirements
Please prepare 16-32 bars of contemporary musical theatre and a 60-second monologue. Bring sheet music – an accompanist will be provided. Submit headshot and resume to redbranchauditions@gmail.com for consideration. Audition appointments will be scheduled on a first come – first served basis.

SWEENEY TODD is the award-winning musical that has all the elements of a classic horror story – betrayal, revenge, madness and murder. Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to 19th century London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. He sets up a barbershop above Mrs. Lovett’s struggling pie shop and plots a unique plan that will shed blood and a new ingredient for Lovett’s meat pies that takes London by storm. The result leads them down a dangerous, thrilling path with deadly consequences. SWEENEY TODD is a thriller musical comedy in the grandest scale.
All artists will be paid a stipend. AEA actors able to work under a special guest artist contract are encouraged to submit.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Sweeney Todd (Bass/Baritone, 30 - 50) A man consumed by revenge after his wife is kidnapped and raped, and he is wrongly convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Darkly cynical.
Mrs. Lovett (Alto/Mezzo, Cockney accent, moves well, 30 - 50) An amoral, pragmatic seller of meat pies - takes practicality to a ridiculous level. She lusts after Todd. A very high-energy role.
Johanna (Soprano, 15 - 25) Benjamin Barker's daughter, a ward of Judge Turpin. Beautiful and pure-hearted. Angelic.
Anthony (Tenor or Baritenor, 18 -30) A good natured, optimistic & naive young sailor.
Beggar Woman (Soprano or Mezzo-Soprano,30-50) Barker's wife, who he believes to be dead. Schizophrenic personality ranging from pathetic to crudely suggestive. Scary and unpredictable.
Judge Turpin (Bass, 40- 60) A lustful, immoral, power-hungry man. Twists the law to suit himself.
Beadle Bamford (Tenor, 35 - 50) Judge Turpin's partner in crime. "A bully with a thin veneer of gentility."
Adolfo Pirelli (Tenor, 30 - 50) A charlatan who claims to be "the king of the barbers, the barber of kings." Must be able to use both rich Italian and rough Irish dialects. A very high operatic style tenor role.
Tobias Ragg (Tenor, 15 – 20’s) Pirelli's young but kind-hearted drum-beating assistant. Simple and Naive.
Jonas Fogg (Male 35 – 60’s, non-singing role, will be part of Ensemble) The proprietor of London's asylum for the criminally insane.
Ensemble: A wide variety of roles will come from the ensemble. Ensemble members must have strong, trained voices and good musicianship. Looking for all shapes, sizes and heights. Minimum casting of 4 women and 5 men.
