Auditions for Gypsy – Adults & Children



GYPSY

Auditions will be held on Monday, August 31

5:00 – 6:30 PM (Kids)
6:30 – 10:30 PM (Adults)

Auditions are by appointment only and will be held at Virginia Rep’s November Theatre, 114 W Broad St., Richmond, VA 23220.

Callbacks will be held Tuesday, September 1 from 5:00 – 11:00 p.m.

All performers will be paid. Union and Nonunion.

What to prepare

Those auditioning are asked to prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song. Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. Also be prepared to dance. Please direct questions to casting@virginiarep.org

Adult Roles

Louise (Female, 20-30)
awkward as a child and always observant, hides her femininity under the guise of a tomboy. When she finally shines, her unabashedly extrovert self takes over. Mezzo soprano/belt.

Herbie (Male, 45-60)
an agent for Rose’s children and a possible husband number 4, has a heart of
gold but also has the power to defend the people he loves with strength; baritone, strong actor.

Dainty June (Female, 20-30)
Baby June as a young teenager, the older she gets, the less she enjoys being treated like a child, must dance very well, tap, and be a strong performer with a strong belt, mezzo; ability to do the splits and twirl a baton a big plus

Tulsa (Male, 20-30)
Boynextdoor type, charming, handsome and endearing, strives to break and be a star, strong vocals and dance, must tap; tenor.

Adult Male Ensemble (Male 30-60)
Various character roles with minimal singing requirements; strong actors sought

Teen Newsboys (Male, 20-30)
Male dancing ensemble; must sing and dance extremely well; Broadway chorus type

Child Roles

Baby June (Female, 8-12)
Rose’s daughter who is constantly being groomed to be the next
Broadway star, cute, blonde, high energy performer with a fantastic belt, who dances well, has gymnastic skills; baton twirling a plus.

Baby Louise (Female, 9-13)
an awkward, observant young girl, always playing second fiddle to her sister June; genuine, earnest, and charming

Kid Newsboys (Male, 9-13)
Kid dancing ensemble; must sing and dance extremely well; gymnastics a plus
