The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” announces a vacancy for Piano Accompanist with the Army’s premier musical organization, located 5 minutes from downtown Washington D.C.
The vacancy is for Piano Accompanist with the Army Voices, a 10-voice SATB chamber ensemble. Performing frequently at the White House, the Pentagon, the Washington, D.C. area, and throughout the United States, their repertoire encompasses classical, Broadway, and popular music. Applicants are required to possess extraordinary vocal accompanying and solo concert piano skills.
Applicants must demonstrate strong, versatile abilities in the following areas:
Solo and ensemble performance
Exceptional sight reading capabilities
Improvisational skills
Proficiency in a variety of musical styles both classical and commercial
Proficiency in reading and transposing standard piano notation, open score, and chord charts
All applicants must have U.S. citizenship due to a security clearance requirement. Anyone offered a position would be expected to pass the Army’s physical examination and meet other standards required to enlist in the Armed Forces. Individuals must enlist and begin Basic Combat Training prior to their 35th birthday.
Audition Information
Auditions will be held on July 22, 2014 at Brucker Hall, home of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” 400 McNair Road, Ft. Myer, Virginia 22211-1306. All invited candidates must pay for their own travel and lodging.

CD or MP3 with four selections to include two accompanied vocal works (aria or lieder and something demonstrating a popular genre) and two contrasting solo selections (one classical, one popular)
Military applicants must also include their Enlisted Records Brief, or equivalent, and a Commander’s letter of intent
Recent enlistment policy has heavily restricted prior service personnel from re-entering the Army. Prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter about these policies before making travel arrangements.
