"My Fair Lady" - Damascus Theatre Company


Damascus Theatre Company is searching for fantastic teen and adult singers who move well for this period piece. Set in London 1912, this classic musical is full of well-known songs such as “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” and “On the Street Where You Live.”

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Teens (14 or older) or Adults (no children’s roles)
Please bring 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show that best shows off your voice. You may sing from the show. An accompanist will be provided.
Please come dressed to move as there will be a dance audition (please wear character shoes or jazz shoes or be prepared to dance in your socks as no street shoes are allowed in the dance.

GENERAL REHEARSAL INFORMATION
Rehearsals will begin at the end of August the week before school starts with a dance camp (evening and weekend times) and rehearsals will begin in earnest in September at venues in Gaithersburg (schools and the director’s home) as well as at the Damascus Library on Saturday afternoons.

Eliza Doolittle *
A cockney flower girl form Lisson Grove working outside Covent Garden. Her potential to become" a lady" becomes the object of a bet between Higgins and Pickering. 25 - 35.

Mrs. Eynsford-Hill
A Friend of Mrs. Higgins' and Freddy's mother. 45+.

Mrs. Higgins
Henry's long-suffering mother. 60+.

Mrs. Pearce*
Henry Higgins' housekeeper. 35+.

Colonel Pickering*
Retired British officer with colonial experience and the author of "Spoken Sanskrit." 40+.

Henry Higgins*
British, upper class professional bachelor, world famous phonetics expert, teacher and author of "Higgins' Universal Alphabet." 35 - 50.

Freddy Eynsford-Hill*
Upper class young man who becomes completely smitten with Eliza. 20 - 35.

Alfred P. Doolittle*
Eliza's father; an elderly but vigorous dustman.

A WORD ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE!
The ensemble of this show will play all of the secondary roles and will be asked to change into several fantastic costumes and play various characters. We need as many good movers/dancers as possible! This will be an extremely busy, high energy and fun ensemble! We need top notch singers who move well and who are willing to work really hard. Be prepared for fun dance numbers including a trash can lid/stomping/wooden-spoon-hitting dance in “Little Bit O’Luck”, a
dignified “Ascot Gavotte” dance at the races, grand waltzing at the Embassy Ball, and a full out can-can style dance with girls in fishnet stockings in “Get Me To the Church On Time”. The ensemble will make or break this production!!

At least 8 women and 8 men to play the following secondary roles and group numbers.

At Tottenham Court outside Covent Garden - Cockney Male Quartet – Barbershop style with featured solos in “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “Little Bit O Luck”, flower girls, street performers, Covent Garden patrons, Hoxton Man, Selsey Man, Cockney Man, Mrs. Hopkins (cockney woman).

Local Bar - George the Bartender, Harry and Jamie – drinking companions of Alfred P. Doolittle, Bar Patrons and dancing girls in Act II for “Get Me To the Church On Time.”

Prof. Higgins' Home – At least 5 household servants who sing, including two featured singing maids in “I Could Have Danced all Night.”

Ascot Race – Lord Boxington - friend of Mrs. Higgins, Ascot Race Guests for “Ascot Gavotte.”

Embassy Ball - Ambassador’s Wife, Prof. Zoltan Karpathy (bearded Hungarian, former phonetics student of Henry Higgins), Queen of Transylvania, Embassy Footman, Embassy Ball Guests for “Waltz.”
