Loudoun Lyric Opera announces auditions for principal, supporting and chorus roles for our original work, NORTON: A Civil War Opera. Auditions will be held Saturday and Sunday, January 18 and 19 at Franklin Park Arts Center.
Commissioned by Loudoun Lyric Opera in honor of the Civil War Sesquicentennial and supported in part by a Project Grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, NORTON follows the Civil War experiences of Oliver Willcox Norton, a Union soldier who was part of some of the most pivotal moments in Civil War history. The new opera features a concept and libretto by Meredith Bean McMath and music by David E. Chávez. NORTON will be directed by McMath (Stage Director) and Chávez (Music Director). AUDITION DATES/TIMES
Ten-minute auditions by appointment only:
- Saturday, January 18th between 10 am and 2 pm, and
- Sunday, January 19th between 2 and 6 pm
Location: Franklin Park Arts Center, 36441 Blueridge View Lane, Purcellville, VA
Those selected for callbacks will be emailed a small musical excerpt and asked to return on Tuesday, January 21 at 7 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 605 W. Market St., Leesburg, VA.
REQUIREMENTS
Those who choose to audition for Principal and Supporting roles should prepare two arias and/or art songs in English which best showcase vocal and acting skills. Those who will audition for Chorus should prepare one aria and/or art song in English. Auditioners may be asked to do some brief sight reading (music) or cold reading (spoken lines) during the ten-minute audition.
An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist, as well as a $10 accompanist fee (Make checks out to Loudoun Lyric Opera).
Rehearsals will begin Saturday, February 1 and will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7-10 pm, and Saturday mornings 9 am to 1 pm in Leesburg. Tech week will be held March 31 - April 3, and production dates are April 4-13 (Fri/Sat 8 pm, Sun 3 pm) at Franklin Park Arts Center.
