Students eligible to audition should be 15-18 years old and already engaged in vocal study with an interest in pursuing a career in opera.

Audition Locations and Dates:
Washington, DC USA: Sat 25th Jan 2014
Washington, DC USA: Sun 2nd Feb 2014

Live auditions: Saturday, January 25, and Sunday, February 2, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
Video auditions: Must be uploaded as part of the online application by January 20, 2014.

Audition Requirements: Prepare two art songs; one must be in Italian. Arias from the standard operatic repertoire are not permitted. Selections such as those in the "24 Italian Songs and Arias" and similar are suggested. If attending a live audition, please bring two copies of the music with you to the audition.

Pianist Provided: Yes. May not bring own.

Students will perform in an Art Songs Recital and an Opera Scenes Recital. Selected students will perform on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage.

Program Information: This inspiring three-week summer program brings passionate, talented high school singers together in the nation's capital to experience opera in a professional and nurturing environment that only a world-class opera company can provide. Dedicated classical singers thrive on Opera Institute's intense and focused curriculum geared toward preparing students for college performance programs and beyond! Students take courses such as opera history, Italian diction, acting, and ear training; participate in professional development workshops on topics such as resume-writing and the professional world; receive voice lessons and coachings; and prepare for performances--all under the guidance of supportive faculty and staff. All classes are held at American University's Katzen Arts Center.

Fees:
Payment is not provided.
Tuition: $1900
Housing: $1000
Housing fees include a meal plan and dorm-room accommodations at American University. Local students have the option of staying at home and commuting.
