Encore Creativity for Older Adults - Washington, DC
Role Type: Choral Conductor
Compensation: Paid
Application Deadline: Received 6/1/2013
Audition Details:
Encore Creativity for Older Adults, the largest and fastest growing choral program for adults over age 55, is looking for a qualified choral conductor to conduct part-time in the Washington DC/Baltimore area starting in September 2013.
We have 13 chorales in the area and are seeking assistance in conducting two of the chorales. We run two 15-week semesters annually, September-December and January-May and the challenging SATB repertoire is the same for all of our chorales since some will perform together at the end of the semester. Chorales rehearse once a week, during the day, for 1.5 hours and the conductor is paid a flat rate for each rehearsal. Performances occur in December and May at venues such as the AACC Pascal Center for Performing Arts, The Kennedy Center, and Smithsonian museums.
Qualifications for the conductor are:
· Bachelors degree in music with focus on vocal performance or conducting and 5 years experience conducting community choir, church choir, high school or college choir OR masters degree in choral conducting and at least 3 years conducting experience.
· Piano skills - to conduct from the piano during rehearsals
· Understanding of vocal technique and ability to explain it
· Enjoy working with senior adults - experience with this age group preferred
· Patience and personality
· Sense of humor
This is an excellent part-time opportunity for a conductor who has evening choral conducting duties since the Encore chorales rehearse during the day.
Encore is also looking for conductors outside of the DC-Baltimore area to help establish affiliate Encore chorales. Contact us for more information.
Submit your resume and letter of introduction to info@encorecreativity.org by June 1, 2013 for consideration. More information on Encore is available on our website, www.encorecreativity.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
