Ash Lawn Opera Festival Young Artist Auditions

-CD or DVD of at least two opera arias (an additional excerpt from a musical is optional). See above about including an aria that is stylistically similar to the role you would like to cover.

La Bohème and Carousel

Genres: Opera, Musical Theatre

Program Information: Young Artists are given the opportunity to perform supporting roles in both main stage productions, principal roles in outreach performances of La Bohème (in Italian and English with piano), and to cover main stage roles in both productions. In addition, Young Artists participate in recitals and performances for donors, marketing events (such as a flash performance at Whole Foods), and perform in the ensemble of both main stage productions.

Participants: Young Artists are typically finished with graduate training and are completing post-graduate training (such as a Young Artist Program).

Training/Roles: Young Artists receive extensive coachings, have the opportunity to be heard by visiting agents and artistic administrators, and take part in Master Classes.

Apprentice Singers have the opportunity to take part in the ensembles of both productions, and depending on availability, cover main stage roles and take part in outreach performances. An ability to move well is essential to be part of the ensemble.
Apprentice Singers are typically pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.

Compensation: Payment is provided. Young Artists are offered a stipend of $1700; host housing is provided during the artist’s contracted time. Transportation to/from/in Charlottesville is the responsibility of the artist.
